Day 217: Distractions Begone

2026-09-11Hello!I've analyzed my preferred focal length for casual photography, my preferred exposure technique for monochrome images, and now I want to talk about my preferred composition.I've mentioned before that the edges of the frame must not contain any distractions, and that's still the most important principle for me in photography. It's such an eyesore and separates my good work from my awful work.When I forget to do that search, as is often the case, I crop out the distractions in post processing. That makes the resolution of the image go down, and in an otherwise detailed photograph, it could ruin the sharpness. I'm not yet at the stage where I could create studio-quality artworks with my camera worth musing over, but there are some steps that I should take before I get there.The main issue with cropping is that I often don't crop an equal amount on all sides, which results in a different aspect ratio.
