Review of Entropy – Smooth! Maybe Too Smooth?

Let’s call a spade a spade: If you would put me into a box, I’d be in the mid-to-heavy Euro gamer category, definitely leaning towards the heavy end of the spectrum. I might dabble in historical-inspired games, train games, tile layers, or even dexterity games, but give me a choice investment opportunity or engine to build and I’m home. The issue with that is that the typical formula of what makes a Euro has by now been so well established that there are almost as few bad ones coming out as truly exceptional ones. Or in other words: It’s a genre where it has become hard to stand out. One Euro that has definitely managed to cut through the noise and been the buzz on my Instagram feed this summer is Entropy. I mean look at it! With its round main board and bold colours, there is hardly an angle from which this game doesn’t look striking. Round board, chunky wooden screen-printed blocks, it’s a buffet of things to purchase, trigger or upgrade. What more could a Euro gamer’s heart desire?…
