Time for a quick check-in with Latvian brewery Ārpus. Craft Central carries a vast array of their cans, and I judiciously picked a handful of ones that looked, shall we say, content-friendly.I began with something called Banana x Caramel x Pear Smoothie Sour Ale. For some unfathomable reason it was in the leftovers bargain bin section of the website. She's a messy bitch who lives for drama, overspilling the glass on pouring, then settling to a pug-ugly dull opaque beige colour. Of the named features, the caramel is strongest in the aroma, but with an added spice, conjuring Christmassy cinnamon or nutmeg vibes. Its texture goes beyond smooth, into full-on milkshake, and while it's only 4.5% ABV, it has a deep and powerful gravity, rendering it a little challenging to drink.The flavour is much like the aroma: lots of sweet and slightly burnt caramel and that odd cake-spice element, which I'm guessing must be the pear.
