• 4-star hike • 1 mile part-loop • Easy | Gain 340 feet • Woodstock, VT | Southern Region . Mount Peg has the best view of Woodstock's hills. Mount Peg sits right on the edge of Woodstock village, making it one of the easiest hikes in the area to walk to and knock out on a whim. The trail is mostly easygoing, winding through quiet woodland on dirt paths before finally breaking out of the trees into a sweeping summit meadow. Here, a panoramic vista opens up across the rolling hills surrounding Woodstock, highlighted by a striking view of Killington Peak to the northwest in the distance. It is a relaxed, grassy spot that offers a much more expansive and satisfying sense of space than the view at the end of the more popular nearby Faulkner's Trail. Once you are done soaking in the scenery, you will find a picnic table and a couple of benches around a small fire pit, making it a comfortable place to sit and take a break before heading back down.
