Deacon Jim Miller, so named because he was a respected church attending man, was born in 1865. When he was 8 years old, the Sheriff concluded he shot and killed his grandparents and lied about it. His grandparents were his caretakers at the time. It was 1873 and nobody knew what to do with an 8-year-old homicidal maniac, so the Sheriff let him free. As an adult, he obtained a job as a deputy Sheriff in Pecos, Texas, but he was a corrupt crook himself. When the Sheriff left town for a few weeks, Jim let the criminals take over Pecos and participated in crimes as well. The Sheriff realized his mistake upon his return and tried to arrest Jim, but they got into a couple of gunfights that prevented the arrest.
