The Guardian article by Daniel Dylan Wray shows ten covers dating from Cornhill in 1860 to Interview in 2023, with examples from the Japan, Italy and the US as well as Britain. The horrors of war lie behind two of the covers. Life ran its ‘Faces of the American dead in Vietnam’ cover in 1969. The conflict link to the pink ‘punk 60 years before punk’ cover of Blast is less obvious, but Wyndham Lewis’s Vorticist art manifesto appeared as the First World War began and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska was one of the contributors killed.
