Bedfont Lakes parkrun

Bedfont is a suburb within the London Borough of Hounslow in West London with a population of around 12,700 people and is located immediately to the south of Heathrow Airport. The name's origin is unclear, but it is widely believed to be linked to a source of water being present in the area. There may have been settlements in the area during the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman periods, but the soil composition is generally quite gravelly / stony, which means it has never been particularly well-suited for cultivating crops. In 1630 the area was granted a licence by Charles I to produce swords, and this led to the Hounslow Sword Mill being set up. It was subsequently converted to a gunpowder mill which operated from 1654 until 1926.Elsewhere in the area's history and despite its land being difficult to farm, it was once home to a fairly successful orchard called Fawns Manor Farm which supplied food to the centre of London through until the 1920s.
