What was the first album you ever bought? Pick your favorite song off that album. John Menzies was in the high street of my hometown. An L-shaped store on the corner of the street and the pedestrian part of the Artizan Centre. Make your way to the back of the store, turn a corner and head upstairs. Four racks of LPs, and a wall of singles, greet you. The latest albums, the top 10, are displayed near the counter at the back. From it I zero’d in and plucked Friend or Foe by Adam Ant from the display, and plonked my money on the counter. It’s a vague memory but given I was 9 years old I can’t imagine that I was either particularly conversant, nor alone (although I’d warrant which parent was with me would’ve waited downstairs). *Goody Two Shoes *was the big hit. Having ditched "The Ants" this album became his biggest, I can still recall the tracks, including my intro to The Doors on the cover of Hello, I Love You.
