The Anbernic RG DS Plus Is The Best DS Handheld Yet

There's something about the Nintendo DS that has always made it difficult for me to leave behind. Not just the games, but the hardware itself. I have huge nostalgia for the Nintendo DSi LL, not because it was necessarily the most technically impressive handheld of its generation, but because I just love the way it was designed. The dual screens, the proportions, the strange little clamshell shape and the feeling of opening it up and immediately having two displays staring back at you, there is something about it that I have always liked more than I probably should admit. Of all the handheld designs Nintendo has produced, it remains my favorite.That probably explains why the original Anbernic RG DS became my favorite retro handheld of 2025. It wasn't the most powerful handheld I used that year, nor was it the most versatile, but it was one of the few that felt like it had a very specific reason to exist.
