"Hot Art: Chasing Thieves and Detectives Through the Secret World of Stolen Art" by Joshua Knelman

A pretty self-explanatory title. This is a non-fiction book about the world of art crime. It's a journalistic account from many perspectives: thieves, detectives, task forces, experts, art collectors, curators. It also goes into a large variety of crime, from big heists from museums to obscure works taken from individuals. Some art is found, some is ransomed, but a lot remains lost forever. This book did a good job at giving lots of information and showing how much of the art trade remains in the dark. I liked reading about how the art world and related crimes developed over the years. When did specialized teams enter the scene? How did globalization affect the trade? What about internet and online databases? Very interesting. What I liked less was the writing style. I don't think it was bad, it's just not what I prefer reading. The author interviewed a lot of people, and most of the chapters have a similar set-up.
