2026 Anniversary Series 085: Tankard – Zombie Attack

Scribed by Sandre the Giant Released: July 1986 Continuing with our thesis that 1986 was the key year for thrash records, we have another instalment of ‘Albums I Found on that Teutonic Thrash Mega-pack Back in the Day’ with Frankfurt legends Tankard and their classic debut, ‘Zombie Attack’. Born of a scene that consistently rivals the Bay Area as the home of thrash metal, Tankard were to gain a reputation as the fun lads who played fast as fuck and obviously liked to party with the monsters. But this is no comedy band like some modern alcohol-fuelled metal bands we could mention but won’t; no Tankard are fucking legit. Forty years on, their passion for the genre seems undiminished and when you have foundations like this and 1987’s ‘Chemical Invasion’ (cannot WAIT to get to that one next year), I’m not surprised. It seems nowadays it isn’t difficult to trip over a band singing songs about drinking, and even back in the mid 80s when Tankard were coming through, there was plenty of glam…
