Depending on other people

In countries outside of the US, “libertarianism” is often synonymous with anarchy. In the US, it typically refers to folks who are really into unrestrained capitalism without the social support. I was talking about this with a libertarian friend some time ago, and they said something along the lines of… What you’re describing means you’d have to really depend on other people. They meant it in a bad way. But the reality is, if you absolutely love capitalism and freedom and rugged individualism… you depend on a lot of other people. Literally no one can do all the things they need to survive entirely on their own. You still need to buy groceries that show up on store shelves because you depend on other people to grow them and pick them and package them and deliver them and stock them and take your money so you can buy them. To get there, you depend on a car that other people built from metal and rubber that other people extracted and different people refined and even more people packaged…
