At church, as I was moving through the communion liturgy, I could feel my throat about to crack, and sure enough, I went into a coughing fit. Because I was at the words of institution, I felt weird about having someone else speak the words--Lutherans believe that only ordained or specially appointed ministers can consecrate the bread and wine. I think it would have been fine, as long as I was there, but I don't really know how members feel. So I drank some water, coughed a bit, and powered through. People were kind.I have spent most of the week wondering if I'm fighting off a cold: I'm more tired and less hungry, and my throat has felt a bit scratchy off and on.
