iPhone Duo Thoughts

Last week I avoided the annual Apple advernouncement with its newest iPhones and related gadgets. But I did skim Apple’s website and caught a bit of news to glean the highlights. Of course, the big focus is on the iPhone Duo, a new hybrid smartphone/tablet…okay, a folding phone. Yes it’s cool, yes it’s expensive, but what else? Before I unpack some Duo thoughts, first an admission: I also listened to one tech podcast (Vergecast) about the iPhone event. But so far, I’m abstaining from ten others. Moderation is good. Second, the iPhone 18 Pro. Yes, it’s the best Pro iPhone ever. But to me, the iterations and additions, like the variable aperture, are not great enough to replace the Cosmic Orange 17 Pro as, hopefully, “my next iPhone.” Orange is really good. Third, I’m super interested in what Apple did NOT announce: the iPhone 18, 18e, and Air 2. I think we must wait six more months for the next base, budget, and special edition iPhones.
