On the irony

I wonder if the oversupply of irony in American mass culture is due to the faux-historied public spaces that pervades it and how, in an urge to manufacture authenticity, it produced an empty parody that brought forward irony as the coping and defense mechanism of the public consciousness. isn’t it ironic?
