So, we will do so belatedly, with a bit of help from reader B.J. in Arlington, MA: Many years ago, on the morning of erev Rosh Hashanah, the great sage Hillel was in the kitchen peeling and cutting apples for a kugel he was making for dinner. His wife, Mrs. Hillel, was outside harvesting honey from their bee farm for morning tea and biscuits. Mr. Hillel went to check on his wife, carrying his apples with him, just as his wife was coming inside. The both turned a corner and bumped into each other. "You got your apples in my honey!" exclaimed Mrs. Hillel. "You got your honey on my apples!" cried Mr. Hillel. They both looked at the bowls with curiosity, then each chose a piece and took a bite.
