I was pretty big on Rick and Morty when it first came out. Not in an edgelord, “your IQ needs to be this high”, I-wanna-be-Rick-Sanchez redditor kind of way. More in like a normal, “I’m going to college for animation and I enjoy watching cartoons” kind of way. I was really into seasons 1-3 and then mostly fell off after that. I’d be lying if I said that “it’s embarrassing to publicly mention Rick and Morty” wasn’t a part of why I quit. I shudder at the thought of weirdos causing a riot in McDonalds for “szechuan sauce.” Beyond that, I think it was also just that the show was losing its luster for me. In 2018 when it was announced that Adult Swim had quickly committed to 70+ more episodes, that was kind of the beginning of the end. Knowing that this thing was going to get rehashed and milked to death was a turn-off for me. It kind of made it an inevitability that I would lose interest eventually, so why even stick around?
