Kaizen #5: Backups (and a lot more)!

After Kaizen #4, I knew I had to act quickly to force myself to set up the actual backups, and do it properly. And this post came a lot later than originally planned, so a lot of stuff has happened. Lucky for me, I have been keeping track of most of my homelabbing, so a simple git log --since=2026-07-05 helps me a lot. That’s 46 commits since the last post, and 55 since I bootstrapped the DL380. And the fun part: not even half of them are about backups. But first, the machines, and some stats: hailmary is the DL380 rack server and runs the apps (43 containers, via Dokploy). blip-a is a Zimaboard that only holds the backup repos. astrofag is a Gigahost VPS that every public hostname points at, so none of them point at the house. hailmary 30 days uptime, 43 containers, 1.6 TB of 3.1 TB used (52%), 267 GB RAM, all 8 RAID6 drives OK blip-a 41 days uptime, 2.7 TB mirror 57% full, rest-server + Beszel agent astrofag (VPS) 26 site blocks, 28 certs, P2P with hailmary on the mesh, vnstat…
