Wandering Aimlessly

This week I thought I’d go up to the Beaver Brook Natural Area to see if the blue stemmed goldenrods were blooming. The blue stems are caused by light reflecting off the natural wax crystals that form on the stems. Hot weather can melt the natural wax coating resulting in no blue stems, but it hasn’t been that hot lately so I thought I might have a look. This is the only place I’ve ever seen them. But there was a surprise waiting; an old oak had fallen on the electric lines that run through here and had closed the place, at least to me. I wasn’t as close as this shot makes it seem. Since trees are falling almost constantly here I have to question the wisdom of still having electric lines running through here. Of course, I don’t know what they power or where they go but I would think the cost of having the power company come out here every time this happens (and it happens a lot) would outweigh the cost of running the lines along the new highway that was built to bypass this old road.…
