I’m very happy to have found this title recently, which is a fantastic session from 1962. Features a great band consisting of Dickerson on vibes, Austin Crowe on piano, Ahmed Abdul-Malik on double bass and Andrew Cyrille on drums.The music feels exotic, intricate, exciting and the band delivers on all fronts. Dickerson’s vibes is the highlight though, as it should be. He plays beautifully throughout.One of the highlights on this album is an interesting duet between Dickerson and Abdul-Malik. Another favorite is the airy and flowing ”Sugar Lump”, an original penned by the leader.The search continues for his other stuff on New Jazz first…
