lunch money faith (anne lamott): getting through the day when the world feels heavy

I appreciate Anne Lamott. As an author she is genuine. Her candor — her willingness to be true to who she is (embracing successes and failures) and what she believes. The last few days, I have been revisiting a phrase she has used in her writing and interviews: Lunch money faith: a “just enough” kind of faith to get one through the day Sometimes the world appears to be spiraling 🌀 out of control. There is no shortage of people who are mean and annoying. Empathy seems to have disappeared from our vocabulary. Politicians are…well, politicians. Geographical features are being renamed on a whim. People are being de-humanized. Corruption and grift are evident. It is discouraging and overwhelming. But, somehow we have to maintain a semblance of belief in humanity. We CAN right the ship, even if we don’t agree on everything. We need to do our part. Speak up. Take action. And, have “lunch money faith” — enough for today. And then tomorrow. And then the next day.
