📕 Read “Kiito, Finland: Notes on what opting in taught me about libraries, learning & myself” by Samantha Hull (KnowledgeQuest vol. 54 no. 5, May/June 2026, p. 15 - 17). Three highlights from Hull’s Fulbright research on how public libraries in Finland support grade schools: Librarians are not waiting to be invited. They are designing grade-specific offerings, proactively contacting schools, and embedding library visits into the rhythm of the school year. (p. 16) A school librarian is not just the person who helps learners find sources. We are the people who show learners that knowledge is accessible, that questions are welcome, that there is a trusted adult whose entire job is to help them navigate information and the world it describes.
