Folding phones have been a polarizing product category for awhile as they’re expensive, fragile, and arguably superfluous. This is a product category that has gained some popularity with entries from both Google and Samsung on multiple iterations. As usual, Apple took its time and entered this segment with something that feels true to the iPhone line. For what it’s worth, there’s competing arguments in the tech enthusiast space: some feel compelled to buy a new iPhone every year, while others criticize Apple for releasing new iPhones every year when the product cycles could be stretched longer. I see the value in both. If you want the latest-and-greatest, can afford it, and really dig in, there are worse vices. If you’re happy with your existing iPhone, no one is making you upgrade and it’s admirable to see how long you can keep a trusty tool.
