A hardcover copy of Harry Dry’s book, Consumers, sits on my shelf. It’s a useful reminder to more intentionally choose the media you listen to, read, and watch. When you give it space, your brain is incredible at creating associations between ideas, experiences, and memories. In the age where information is abundant, this type of association is becoming a more and more useful practice. (Creativity is a word that describes this practice.) These changes can start small; for example, change what you listen to. In addition to listening to audiobooks instead of podcasts, I recently signed up for The Great Courses and started listening to a course about the Italian Renaissance. Even in just the course’s introduction, I was surprised at how much information my mind soaked up (which I have no doubt unconsciously contributed to yesterday’s post).
