2026-09-02Hello! I took a much-needed break outdoors and went to the beach.While on the trail to the beach, I came across this view into the prairie beyond the line of trees. I think prairie is the right word; it's not empty of trees or shrubs, but it is flat and coastal land. Unless this used to be a forest and the replacement trees have been planted this decade, I'm looking at a biome different from what I'm used to.The bottom-left corner of the image shows cacti growing below the grass line. Being next to sandy terrain, that makes sense. The trees grow different, more fern-style leaves than I'm used to. There's less shade in this area, and I imagine more visibility from above.I felt a sense of dry air in this area. I don't have a good sense for temperature or humidity, but I would expect wetter air from the Atlantic Ocean and cooler air from the, well, Atlantic Ocean. It could have been from the sand getting in my shoes (I neglected to bring sandals), but it felt dry and warm. Not…
