Last week, I was caught in a rainstorm. I later found out it was called “100 year storm,” named because it had only a 1% chance of happening in any given year. I hadn’t realized this was happening, and got caught outside while running errands. My home was just several minutes away from the grocery store. However, the rain came very suddenly; I used an umbrella, but even 30 seconds in the rain left me soaked. I found the nearest alcove, a storefront on a quiet street, and figured I’d wait it out. The first rainfall calmed, and I waited for a minute to see what happened next. It returned with a vengeance, accompanied by hail (which I had no idea happened in the summer). I played my favorite game—which was typing up this blog post—to pass the time. I ended up hailing an Uber after I saw the alerts from the government on my phone. The day after, I saw the rainstorm had uprooted a huge tree. It has since laid on its side.I’d heard that there were people working on scaffolding or washing…
