Web form invalid validation

A few years ago talked about the bizarre and frustrating trend of websites prematurely validating text as you’re typing, for no (good) reason: One character? That’s not a valid email! Two characters? That’s not a valid email! n characters? And now you’ve finished typing in that field, and its lost focus as you go to the next field? You must be done typing now. Huh. I guess you did have a valid email in mind after all. Wild. Presumably the people who design those forms have never interacted with a signup flow in their life, or appreciate how annoying it is to be told with a red box and flashing lights that the value they’re midway through typing is, indeed, valid. Not that such forms have got to me, or anything. I think we have a new winner though: I’m impressed, on so many levels. It also indicates that someone, somewhere out there, has a null email address.
