• 4-star hike • 6 mile out-and-back • Moderate | Gain 1,940 feet • Mount Holly, VT | Southern Region . Uninterrupted panoramic views from Okemo Fire Tower. A steel fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps has stood atop Ludlow Mountain since the 1930s, remaining operational until around 1970. Today, a restored Okemo Fire Tower is fully open to hikers, and climbing to the unlocked cab at the top delivers breathtaking, unobstructed 360-degree panoramas of Vermont's Green Mountains. Marked with blue blazes the entire way, the Healdville Trail ascends the northern flank of the mountain at a moderate grade, free of steep pitches or rough scrambles. Grand vistas are saved for the summit, but the trail makes up for the lack of early viewpoints with beautiful, verdant forest scenery throughout.
