I spent a delightful summer enjoying my choices of reading material for the season. Almost every day after lunch, unless we have an appointment, I sit on the love seat next to a sunny window and read for at least an hour. I relish my quiet reading time. “Time enough at last,” I say, like the character from that Twilight Zone episode who finally had time enough at last to read following a nuclear war but ironically couldn’t because his reading glasses broke. Like that pathetic character, I rarely can enjoy my quiet reading time because my wife frequently frustrates me with constant interruptions. I’m also a much faster eater and finish lunch before her but have my quiet time disturbed by the annoying sports talk radio she refuses to turn off. Nevertheless, I managed to complete 3 fiction books, 1 nonfiction book, and I’m halfway through a 2nd nonfiction book. This summer was better reading than last summer when I spent most of it reading a very long book about Big Band jazz. I liked…
