I've moved away from Bearblog despite it being an amazing platform because I found it constricting. Adding things like my '100DaysToOffload' counter meant adding code to every single post body. Changing that code becomes an annoying nightmare. This pattern repeats itself across Bear as it strives for simplicity (not a bad goal) but I finally decided I wanted change. I will miss the free traffic from Bear's discover feature though! Moving to a static site generator means I can focus on my content again. I am writing this in a text editor, and I will deploy using a script. Eleventy has other benefits too: I can create my own tags which drastically reduce the time taken to embed videos, lists of recent posts, as well as an "On This Day Archive".
