Day 206: Army Mansion

2026-08-31Hello!This long row of buildings was one of the the only structures on this flat, green field. This one, with its front porch crumbling, was not safe to enter.I don't know which building this was; they're all identical, set apart only by their decay.The National Park Service manages it, claiming these homes were used for the US Army after the Civil War. Now, it's a tourist destination at a bit of land that happened to be strategic for the military once.Alexandra Charitan posted a caption for these buildings: "raccoon hotels". I think that fits, and I'm glad I didn't go closer.The buildings are well documented online, and I wouldn't be adding much to the discussion other than: "it felt spooky, almost like a movie set of identical homes". The specific movie set: the identical row of suburban houses in A Wrinkle of Time, a 2018 Disney film. Look up images of that scene online, I'm not making this up. Thank you for visiting this blog!
