📺 Watched: Star Trek Strange New Worlds S4E7 "Like Chronitrons Through the Hourglass". A familiar cosmic being (Rhys Darby) puts the crew of the Enterprise in a soap opera, but Pike is the only one that knows it. This episode was not bad, I liked it, but it's not great at all. It's yet another meandering gimmick episode, one of many we've seen so far this season. I brought this up in conversation with fellow Trek fans and I see this season and its gimmicks as self-Flanderization. Are the writers thinking about how fans remember fondly about episodes as "the one where Scotty comes back!" or "the one where they have to go back in time to rescue Data!"1 and think that's what fans want? "The one with the soap opera!" Compare to an episode like "The Naked Time" that I enjoyed much more than "Chronitrons": my viewing of this show last week was my first time, and I thought it was better-written and more fun than this latest SNW episode.
