It’s been the summer holidays and I have a young child so my time has been very occupied. Here are some of the things I found in spare moments or just before the holidays started and then didn’t get round to posting sooner. Beautiful Pictures Breaking waves and rising mountains – Hokusai, Hiroshige, and the Japanese art of Ukiyo-e by Thamara Kandabada – I have a massive soft spot for woodblock prints, especially ones that show people in motion really far away. Tiny little people reduced to a head and a vague body shape somewhere in the shadow of a mountain, crossing a bridge in the rain, marvelling at nature. The art of Katsuyuki Nishijima by John Coulthart – I visited Katsuyuki Nishijima’s gallery in Kyoto with my partner in 2014, we bought four woodblock prints.
