Review: Vorax – Volcano Shock

Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 26th June 2026 I’m not going to lie here, if I come across a death metal record about dinosaurs, you’ve peaked my fucking interest immediately. Swiss newcomers Vorax have just released their debut full length, ‘Volcano Shock’, back in June independently and it follows up their 2022 debut EP ‘Jurassic Dawn’, which I completely missed and am now disappointed in myself about. So, death metal and dinosaurs then, with cover art that looks like that?? Let’s be having this. Opener ‘Magma Ocean’ has the kind of knuckle dragging, Bolt Thrower steamroller groove you’d expect from a death metal band about dinosaurs and it fucking rules OK? The band obviously love ‘Those Once Loyal’, A LOT, but who doesn’t? There’s something just primal about the groove of the title track, literally, that reverberates through your bones and almost compels the banging of the head. But you get touches of crusty old d-beat in ‘Hunter Killer’, and some moody, almost death/doom…
