Open Gardens at Badminton

The gardens at Badminton House are open three times a year, and we only noticed last night that today was one of them. So we set off to get there by 10am to take a look around. I went to the Horse Trials once in the early 90’s and I’ve done seed harvesting on the estate a couple of times, but otherwise I don’t know anything about the house. The formal gardens surround it on three sides and then spill over into bigger barkland beyond. Conservatory plants There was still an awful lot in flower, so a lot to see in all the different areas. As well as formal beds, there were quite a lot of mini orchards dotted about. The conservatory and orangery areas were also interesting with yew clipped into all sorts of shapes. But the highlight was the walled garden, some way from the house. As well as a huge greenhouse and flower bed, there were large vegetable patches and more fruit trees and orchards.
