Seeding and Thriving

Very busy day ahead today, and kicked off by meeting with Tony at Stroud for the monthly riverfly check at Ebley Meadows. We selected the upper site again this month because it’s still accessible and there was more chance of finding a diverse set of species. Although river levels were still low, the bucket looked promising at first glance. We rescued a large bullhead and then set about analysing the sample. As it turned out, the score was middling – plenty of gammarus, but no count of over 10 for other species. I then headed over to Sapperton Wilder to join the Glorious Grasslands team on the first seeding spread of the year. I’ve never actually been here before, despite several of my local projects doing various activities over the years. Today’s task was the seeding of a couple of fields which would use up 250kg of this year’s haul. I arrived a bit late, but the discipline in force was plain to see.
