I'm very susceptible to how other people talk. I pick up someone's accent, phrasing, word choices, and so on. Really quickly. In a single conversation. To the point where I have to be really aware of it and hold back, worried it might seem mocking. Other than worrying about that it's mostly a good thing. In a rare moment I'm going to say I'm fairly solid at writing dialogue. My dialogue gets pretty good feedback and I feel it's a strength. It's usually the easiest and first part of a story that comes to me. My 'scraps' documents are just full of dialogue. Once I've heard someone talk I 'hear' their written communication in their voice. Writing fanfiction of visual media the characters are just chatting away in their own voices. Given the places I've lived, all my life I've been surrounded by people for whom English is between a second and a fifth language. My home town, then Wales, London, now back home.
