X communicated 0 ▲ Olly 1 hour ago · Politics · hide · 0 comments There's a common refrain on Bluesky and Mastodon: if you're on Twitter/X, and especially if you're paying for premium1, then you're complicit in whatever Elon Musk does. You're funding the far right. You're a fascist sympathiser, even. I totally get why people say this, but I don't agree. Without question there's a strong case for ditching X and never looking at it again. Being on it gives it some legitimacy, and paying for it does provide funds for it. There's also no denying that Musk has become a far-right activist by backing Trump, the AfD, Restore Britain, Tommy Robinson – deeply unpleasant people and political parties, at least in my world view. So on the face of it, if you despise these politics like I do and have any principles, you should leave. Yet, people and charities with very strong principles are still there, many of them paying Musk money, and they're the complete opposite of "fascist sympathisers" – their main objective in life is to defeat these people.
