Watcher beware: loss of a parent to cancer (in the past); rape drugs, rape off-screen, and references to rape culture on-screen; drinking; domestic violence; abusive parent; misogyny, both societal and internalized; full frontal nudity, various characters. If you are a fan of the show, you may want to skip this one. Short version: the show serves as a reminder that New Adult is definitely not for me. When sexual trauma is used as a plot device rather than given the weight it deserves, I find personally offensive and potentially harmful to others. Furthermore, the ‘gratuitous nudity’ and ‘soft porn’ accusations flung so freely at “Heated Rivalry” actually fit this show.
