The Tobacco Workers’ wagon passes in front of the camera during the 1887 Labor Day parade at Union Square: We’re looking west across the north end of the square – the only recognizable landmark is the 1881 Century Building on the far right. You have to look at the left-hand picture to see it: stereoscopes create their three-dimensional image by combining two pictures from slightly different angles, and Century is almost entirely out of frame in the right-hand picture.
