Gunnersbury parkrun

Gunnersbury is an area within the district of Chiswick in the London Borough of Hounslow. The name Gunnersbury seems to originate from a Scandinavian name of a person called Gunnhildr or Gunylda who may or may not have been the niece of King Canute. While the bury part of the name seems to indicate a house or fortified enclosure. The subsequent Manor of Gunnersbury was held by the Bishop of London c.1378. The manor house changed hands numerous times over the years, and was apparently visited on multiple occasions by the German composer George Frideric Handel. In 1761 it came into the possession of Princess Amelia, who was the daughter of George II.Various manor houses seem to have existed throughout the years, which had all been modified or demolished and replaced. Eventually the land was divided and sold off in lots. The outcome of this was that two separate estates were created and two large houses were built side-by-side overlooking the grounds.
