The price of the spotlight

If you want to experience a moment of being the center of attention, let people know that it’s your birthday. You may receive a hug, a song, or even a small gift. I had the privilege of growing up with my parents throwing me parties for friends and family. During university, I organized some big parties. A good friend even threw me a surprise party one year. I was the center of attention, and I shook hands, gave hugs, and took shots. As time goes on, I find that I prefer being on the periphery of attention. The smaller your plans, the more free you are to do whatever you like. Because your birthday doesn’t disrupt the regular rhythm of other people, you’re free to enjoy it. Your birthday means you have at least a few moments on one day of the year to do pretty much anything you want to do. If you want to feel like the main character, you’re free to throw a big celebration and do that. And if you want to start a new creative project, or try a new restaurant, or enjoy your regular…
