Four months ago I got bitten by the submarine bug. I bought the game UBOAT from Steam, watched the movie Das Boot, and even bought the book Das Boot, which I just finished reading. So, naturally it’s time to build another RC submarine. Here we go again. The version history so far. This will be the fifth radio-controlled submarine I’ve designed and built. As before, the goal is to experiment – try out new ideas, improve old ones, use whatever materials I can find on the internet, and use Lego parts as much as possible. That’s the DIY way. It’ll be fun… and difficult. You may have read the blog post series about Submarine 4.0 – the big idea there was to use PID control for depth. The sub had its benefits – it was fairly pleasant to drive, thanks to the automatic depth automation. It let you focus on driving forward or backward and turning.
