Today’s recording starts with the end of Hole in the Wall. There’s a trail for Zingzillas. There’s a brief Glastonbury trail, plus a World Cup England v Germany trail. And now it’s the finale to Matt Smith’s first series as the Doctor, Doctor Who – The Big Bang. Because Steven Moffat loves the Timey-Wimey, it opens with a very familiar shot, tracking through Amy’s garden, and we hear young Amelia’s voice saying her prayer to Santa, exactly as from the first episode of the series. But when she looks out of her window, she no longer sees the Tardis crashed into her shed. Because the Tardis exploded at the end of the last episode. The garden is normal. She looks up into the sky, at the moon. And no stars. Moffat now has a scene which helps to underline the ‘no stars’ idea because that last shot was not very obvious. So he has Amelia’s teacher talking to her about a painting she’s done. “It’s a lovely painting, Amelia. And what are all these?” “Stars.” Apparently, now, in this reality,…
