My friend Zan shared a grab of a postcard and I immediately transferred details to the calendar. READ SHIT WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS AT HOFFNER PARK! MON. AUG. 24, 7PMB.Y.O. SHIT I came prepared with blanket, bottle of water and American Fantasy by Emma Straub — a novel about a cruise centering around an aging boy band and their fans. As folks gathered it felt like the beginning of study hall… There were hellos, intros, sharing of reading material, and then a realization that we had better get to reading — which everyone did. And while it took a while to focus on the page and not the buzzing of the world around the park, I got into a zone and knocked out a good chunk of that book about the boy band cruise. (It’s fine — totally beats doomscrolling.)
