It’s been a little while since I picked up a book from my my various casual and ongoing reading projects; however, I recently felt the need for something familiar and which I knew I could probably rely upon to enjoy. I’ve been making my way through Jack Kerouac‘s ‘Duluoz Legend’ books, re-reading titles I often haven’t looked at for decades, and the next one in the sequence was his most famous work – “On The Road”. This was not the first of his titles I read, and in fact I can’t recall when I did last pick it up. However, I *did* read and love the original ‘scroll‘ version back in 2013, around the time I saw the actual manuscript in person; so I decided that now would be a good time to return to the published version. “On the Road” is narrated by Sal Paradise, Kerouac’s alter ego for the story, and tells of a number of journeys he takes, criss-crossing America in search of – well, what is perhaps never quite clear, but kicks, joy, truth and meaning are all options.
