Some connections are clearly evident, while others are more subtle. My last three posts were all from 42nd Street, with similar vertical monochrome compositions. When I saw today’s Target picture in my library, I had to include it. It’s also located on 42nd Street, roughly across from the Empire AMC. The picture also fits into the chain-store theme I’ve been discussing, though this one approaches it differently. Yesterday’s AMC clearly benefited from the historic building it took over, elevating the theater beyond a typical mall location. Target, on the other hand, dressed up a bland modern facade with graphical details that elevate it beyond the company’s typical suburban stores. Today’s photo is an example of the positive effect that historic, glitzy 42nd Street has on its newest neighbors.
