I have found a steady, reliable setup for the System76 Darter Pro laptop I was gifted last year (thanks again, Chris!). As a System76 laptop, it’s a no-brainer that I should be running Pop!_OS COSMIC Desktop as the operating system on this machine. However, I have found the latest iteration of this OS to be a bit too unstable for my needs. I’ve tried several Linux distributions in its place, including the latest releases of Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, RedHat, Fedora, Arch, Omarchy, and Debian. It turns out Debian 13, “Trixie”, is the winner. I’m running the SwayWM (window manager) for the interface, and I used the scripts from justaguylinux.com as my starting point. I am a big fan of SwayWM, which is a tiling window manager that is super customizable, and it is lightweight. This machine flies with SwayWM on the desktop. When it comes to SwayWM, I’m most impressed with Fedora’s Sway spin, but I found Fedora a little too unreliable in some aspects, and I prefer Debian anyway. I believe I first…
