Yesterday night, while searching for something to watch while having dinner, I stumbled upon a Netflix brazilian reality show called Mom Knows Best? (Sua Mãe Te Conhece?). I usually do not watch reality content, except for the odd home renovation and fashion makeovers and the like. I was never a fan of the drama and falseness of it all (despite the name). However, my curiosity got the best of me and I ended up binge watching the entire show last night. And it got me thinking. First of all, it reinforced my bias against "boy moms" - you know the ones - and made the distinction between the relationship between a mom and a daughter, versus a mom and a son, clearer. I can't help but feel like a lot of "boy moms" foster a incestual climate without even noticing it. They lean on their sons to cater to their emotional needs, especially when their own romantic relationships are either non-existent or negative.
