Magazines in the movies: The Strand in Poirot

A 1936 copy of The Strand used in the 1992 ‘Death in the Clouds’ episode of Poirot on ITV The November 1936 issue of The Strand pops up in ‘Death in the Clouds’, a 1992 episode of Poirot on ITV based on the 1935 book. A copy is found among the belongings of a man murdered on a plane returning from Paris. The cover shows French prime minister Léon Blum, one of a series of character studies of politicians the magazine was running that year. A reference to the British tennis player Fred Perry winning the French championship against Gottfried von Cramm of Germany dates the events to July 1935. Perry also won three Wimbledon championships from 1934-36, defeating von Cramm in the latter two. However, the November 1936 Strand was published after all these events. Another discrepancy is that the aircraft is a Douglas Dakota DC-3, a widely used military transport during WWII.
